Why is it important to treat damp?

Rising damp is a major issue for homes in the UK, causing damage and creating an unpleasant living environment.

These are some of the reasons why damp should be treated:

  • It’s better for your health. Homes with damp problems are more likely to trigger asthma attacks and other health problems.
  • You can live more comfortably. Damp can smell bad and look unpleasant. A damp-free home is a much better living environment.
  • Energy costs can be reduced. Damp-proofing a home improves insulation so you can reduce your reliance on central heating.

You may also notice condensation on walls from time to time – this can often be prevented with heating and ventilation, but if you think it is part of a bigger problem, ask us for a quote and we can assess the issue for you.

Damp-proofing and treating damp in your property

When we carry out damp work in your property, these are the steps we take to ensure we complete our work thoroughly:

  • We undertake a damp survey and produce a report
  • We agree a schedule of works so we can give an accurate quote
  • All internal plaster is removed to a height of approximately 1.2m, exposing the underlying masonry
  • An injectable damp course is installed and we re-render using sand and cement, with a waterproofing admixture. This prevents the residual moisture reaching decorative surfaces during drying, and stops hygroscopic salts coming through, as they would continue to attract moisture.
  • The render dries out over the course of a week, and we then return to re-plaster, fit skirting boards and complete any other works quoted for.

Render – tackling damp at its source

Rising damp will seep in from outside a property, getting into your internal walls. Prevention is better than a cure, and our sophisticated render systems can form a strong barrier, keeping damp out and keeping your property dry inside. We offer:
